Born
in Ipameri, State of Goiás, in the Midwest of
Brazil.
From
early on she devoted herself to painting. Self-taught,
she went through several phases in which she painted
everything from large houses to still life and portraits.
But it was not until 1982, in the Chapada dos Guimarães
in Cuiabá, dazzled by the birds of the Pantanal,
that she found her true love, macaws. She has been researching
this now endagered bird ever since.
She
has visited several ecological reserves: Iguaçu
in Foz do Iguaçu (Paraná), Serra de Carajás
in Pará, Amazônia, Parque ecológico
de Goiânia, Fazenda São Domingos and Parque
das Primaveras in Caldas Novas, Goiás.
In
a new phase, she now depicts the macaws from their birth,
habitat, courtship, mating, movements and flights.
She
spent hours in reserves, studying the movements and
flights of the macaws.
Because
of her passion for these birds, she has become known
in the artistic circle as Graça das Araras, title
of her exhibition, in 1977, in England, sponsored by
the Ministry of Culture.
Her
studio is located in Goiânia, where she lives.
In
her paintings shes uses the combined technique, acrylic
and oil colors, straws, foliage, stones of Pirenópolis,
canvas, and cords.
Graça
says she loves the macaws, their strong coloring befits
their personality. She herself is like the macaws; loyal,
gregarious, friendly and faithful.
